Dr. Umeika Stephens, graduate program director for the psychiatric nurse practitioner program and co-principal investigator on Wayne State University's SBIRT grant, introduces SBIRT (S=Screening, B=Brief, I=Intervention, R=Referral, T=To Treatment). Dr. Stephens explains how she has implemented SBIRT into her professional career as well as teaching SBIRT to her students.

SBIRT for Alcohol Use

Sheryl, a 30-year-old female, is attending an appointment at her Primary Care office. Sheryl completed several screening tools which indicated excessive alcohol use. Based on the screening results, Sheryl's primary care physician referred Sheryl to the social worker.
